Czech football July 2026 – promotions & season start
Entities: Sparta Prague · SK Kladno · Baník Ostrava · FK Hodonín · Jan Kočí
Overview
The lower‑league season wrapped in late June, and the summer transfer window saw a flurry of moves, including Baník Ostrava’s signings and coaching changes. In early July, Zbrojovka Brno’s striker Filip Večeřa underwent ankle surgery, and Baník Ostrava’s owner refuted any sale rumors.
On 30 July, SK Kladno secured promotion to the Czech second division for the first time in fifteen years. Coach Zdeněk Hašek hailed the historic achievement, noting the extensive licensing work and fundraising that made the return to professional football possible. The club’s inaugural home match will be opened by former Kladno native and coach Miroslav Koubek.
The new season kicked off the same day with a slate of Chance Liga and MOL Cup fixtures. Sparta Prague opened at home against FC Zlín, while Slovan Liberec hosted FK Teplice. Regional cup ties featured clubs such as FK Ostrov, FK Klášterec, FK Pěnčín and FK Hvězda Cheb. Injuries were already a concern, exemplified by Pěnčín forward Daníček’s shoulder operation.
Later on 31 July, lower‑league sides FC Strání and FK Hodonín bolstered their squads. Strání added several players, including Petr Silnica and 16‑year‑old forward Lukáš Zámečník, ahead of a match with Bystrc. Hodonín signed midfielder Jan Kočí from Jihlava and 19‑year‑old Viktor Peřina from Zbrojovka, while long‑time midfielder Tomáš Langer departed. Hodonín also launched an online MATCHDAY newsletter for supporters.
These developments continue the dynamic off‑season activity across Czech football, setting the stage for the upcoming league and cup campaigns.
