The eastward‑moving heat dome that has driven Germany into a third, severe phase of the summer heatwave remains dominant. Health officials, including NRW health minister Karl‑Josef Laumann, continue to urge residents to drink a glass of water each hour, stay in shade or cool indoor spaces, and watch for signs of heat‑stroke. The Berlin waste‑management agency will close its recycling centres at 15:00 on the hottest day.

The German Städtetag maintains its call for billions of euros in federal and state funding for climate‑adaptation measures such as urban greening and de‑sealing. Former TV presenter Frank Elstner, co‑author of “Herzklima”, reiterates that heat can be lethal, especially for vulnerable groups. Similar heat‑wave alerts have been issued in Croatia, with orange and red warnings and temperatures expected between 35 °C and 40 °C.
