Overview

The municipal Secretariat of Infrastructure (Seinfra) has continued its weekly “tapa-buraco” road-maintenance program. As of late July 2026, operations have extended to 50 neighborhoods, including Jardim Cidade Universitária, Mangabeira, Bessa, Castelo Branco, Alto do Mateus, and Centro. These efforts involve repairing potholes, cleaning drainage galleries, and maintaining public lighting. Residents can request these services via the “João Pessoa na Palma da Mão” mobile app.

In preparation for Father's Day, the municipal government has implemented special measures for public cemeteries, such as Senhor da Boa Sentença and Santa Catarina. To accommodate an expected 40,000 visitors, the Urban Development Secretariat (Sedurb), the Municipal Cleaning Urban Autarchy (Emlur), and Seinfra have coordinated cleaning, landscaping, and repairs. Cemeteries will be open from 6:00 to 17:00.

Scheduled activities include religious services and health monitoring, such as blood pressure and glucose checks, particularly for the elderly. Security is being reinforced by the Military Police, the Metropolitan Civil Guard, and the Municipal Urban Security and Citizenship Secretariat.

Additionally, the João Pessoa City Hall is advancing urban mobility projects. With support from the French Development Agency (AFD), the city is developing Bus Rapid System (BRS) corridors and integration terminals along several major avenues, including Epitácio Pessoa and 02 de Fevereiro.
