Brazil Catholic Church 2026: Digital Guidance & Collab

Overview

In late July and early August 2026, the Brazilian Catholic Church intensified its focus on implementing new evangelization directives and navigating digital culture. From July 20–24, approximately 190 pastoral coordinators met in Brasília to study the General Guidelines for Evangelizing Action (DGAE 2026–2032) and the final Synod document. Concurrently, the Organization of Seminaries and Institutes of Brazil (OSIB) met in Belo Horizonte on July 27 to address the challenges of artificial intelligence and digital culture in priestly formation.

Social action and synodal themes remained central. Following the Archdiocese of Florianópolis’s second Forum of Pastorals on July 30, the CNBB scheduled the CEPAST Forum in Brasília for August 5–7 to unite pastoral networks and social-action groups under the theme “My ecclesial community transforms the world.” Digital engagement expanded on August 4 with the launch of the live series “Diretrizes e Sínodo: três conversões,” which discussed the synod’s proposed conversions of relations, processes, and bonds. This coincided with the opening of the 2026 Vocational Month in Caxias do Sul on August 2.

As the year progresses, the Church has also turned toward civic engagement. The CNBB released an official message for the 2026 elections, advocating for a political process rooted in human dignity and the common good. To support this, the National Center for Faith and Politics launched the ‘Elections 2026: democracy, synodality and the common good’ training resource, utilizing the ‘Conversation in the Spirit’ methodology to encourage ethical reflection among ecclesial communities.
