Omterra rebrand, margin target and US plant
Entities: Siemens Energy · JPMorgan · Omterra · 50Hertz · UBS
Overview
In July 2025 Siemens Energy announced a phased rebrand to **Omterra**, ending a ten‑year licence that cost €300 million a year and merging its Energy and Gamesa businesses. The move removed a margin‑dragging fee, prompting upgrades from JPMorgan and Barclays and a BBB+ long‑term credit rating. That month the company also broke ground on a high‑voltage switchgear plant in Pearl, Mississippi, investing US$300 million as part of a broader US manufacturing programme of roughly US$1 billion through 2028, while expanding its share‑buyback programme to more than 3.9 million shares.
In July 2026 the board reinforced the strategic push, confirming that the Omterra rebrand will continue later in the year and raising its internal return targets to an adjusted EBIT margin above 18 % by 2030 (current guidance 14‑16 % by 2028, 12 % for the current year). Units that repeatedly miss these targets could face organisational measures, including possible spin‑offs.
At the same time Siemens Energy unveiled a €6 billion share‑repurchase programme to run to 2028. Despite the share price trading about 23 % below its April peak, UBS lifted its target price to €210 and JPMorgan kept an "Overweight" rating. The company also highlighted ongoing offshore‑wind projects, such as the North Sea Connector 2 partnership with 50Hertz, with quarterly results due on 5 August.
