Under the updated Regulation 261/2004, set to take effect by early 2027, passengers will retain rights to compensation for flights delayed by more than three hours or cancelled less than 14 days before departure. Compensation amounts remain between 250 and 600 euros depending on distance. To streamline the process, the reform mandates automatic refunds for cancellations and introduces pre-filled forms for compensation claims. Additionally, a nine-month deadline has been established for submitting claims.

The regulations also mandate price transparency, requiring carriers to display total ticket costs, including luggage surcharges, at the start of the booking process. New protections ensure free adjacent seating for children under 14, pregnant travelers, and passengers with reduced mobility. For significant delays, airlines must provide accommodation, transport, internet access, and telephone services.
