Renewable energy and storage sector financing and market's

Overview

The renewable energy and clean-tech sectors continue to see significant capital inflows directed toward energy storage, solar, and mobility infrastructure. Corporate funding rounds have reached substantial scales, including Form Energy’s $750 million Series G and Hydrostor’s $230 million equity investment.

Project-specific financing remains highly active. In India, AMPIN Energy Transition secured a $195 million facility for a wind-solar and battery storage project in Andhra Pradesh, while Hindustan Power achieved financial closure for a $113.5 million solar project in Uttar Pradesh. Mahindra Susten also secured ₹8.75 billion for a hybrid project in Maharashtra. International transactions include the sale of the 125 MW Kukonkylä battery storage project in Finland to Enlight Renewable Energy and the reacquisition of community solar projects in New York by PowerBank Corporation.

European markets are seeing both specialized funding and structural shifts. Arteus Energy GmbH secured 600,000 EUR via crowd-investing for a 5 MW battery project in Germany. Meanwhile, Edisun Power AG is acquiring Smartenergy Group AG for approximately 440 million Swiss francs to focus on data center energy and Power-to-X applications.

However, the sector is facing a period of market consolidation and structural correction. Industry experts note that developers are under pressure from high land and permitting costs, alongside declining project sale prices. In Germany, solar and wind parks with heavy debt are struggling due to rising interest rates. Specifically, solar facilities operating without long-term power purchase agreements or integrated storage are seeing reduced profitability, with solar power capture rates in Germany falling from approximately 58% of the average electricity price in 2024 to about 50% in 2025.
