Da Nang economic development and financial hub push
Overview
Da Nang is advancing major infrastructure and energy projects to support its economic transformation. The Da Nang City Council has approved over 6.2 trillion VND for the common-infrastructure phase of the Liên Chiểu port, which includes a dedicated railway, new berths, and a 5.73 km road network scheduled for 2026–2030. To bolster energy security for high-tech industries, authorities have proposed accelerating the Hoa Ninh LNG power plant project to the 2026–2030 period. Vice Chairman Phan Thai Binh emphasized developing a comprehensive “energy ecosystem” including import ports, storage, and gas infrastructure. Aviation infrastructure is undergoing significant upgrades. The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and the Da Nang People's Committee have detailed a major expansion of Da Nang International Airport exceeding 10,106 billion VND. This includes a VND 9,936 billion renovation of the T1 passenger terminal, scheduled to begin in August 2027 and reach a capacity of 14 million passengers by early 2029. Additionally, a VND 170 billion first phase of aircraft apron expansion is expected to add six Code C parking positions by July 2027. Complementing this, a VND 1,696 billion project will upgrade runway and taxiway systems to ICAO 4E standards between 2026 and 2028 to accommodate large Code E aircraft. Furthering its economic diversification, the city plans to launch the Vietnam International Financial Center (VIFC-DN) office in January 2026. This center aims to establish Da Nang as a hub for fintech, wealth management, and green finance. The city has signed over 20 memorandums of understanding with partners such as Binance, Tether, Bybit, and the Swiss Fintech Association. Between 2026 and 2030, the city intends to license international asset management companies and establish investment funds to mobilize between $1 billion and $4 billion annually for sectors including semiconductors, AI, and logistics.
