Turkey lavender tourism season expands
Overview
The lavender‑focused agritourism wave continued into August 2026. In Kütahya, the municipality and the Living Heritage Culture and Art Association staged a Lavender Harvest Day in Aloğlu village, where mayor Eyüp Kahveci joined residents in picking flowers and highlighted the link between local production, rural development and tourism.
Kayseri’s metropolitan municipality harvested roughly 250,000 lavender plants from city parks and boulevards, sending the cuttings to its Natural Products Garden Refining Facility. Technicians aim to distill about 40 litres of pure lavender oil for use in cologne, showcasing how urban green spaces are being turned into economic assets.
In Konya’s Karatay Lavender Garden, the post‑summer harvest followed a season that attracted more than 500,000 visitors. Mayor Hasan Kılca emphasized that the real story begins after the harvest, as the flowers are processed into essential oil, water and a range of value‑added products—including soft drinks, ice‑cream, soaps, candles and cosmetics—by women’s cooperatives that generate employment.
These events reinforce the nationwide strategy of using municipal lavender gardens to diversify rural and urban incomes, promote sustainable development, and expand visitor‑friendly attractions that blend agriculture, culture and eco‑tourism.
