Overview

Argentine political consultant Fernando Cerimedo, a former advisor to Javier Milei, has been formally charged with attempted femicide by Bolivian authorities. The charges follow a violent shooting in Santa Cruz de la Sierra targeting his former partner, lawyer and activist Nadia Beller.

Beller, who is four months pregnant, was struck by three 9mm bullets during an ambush at a hotel entrance. She survived the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment for wounds to her neck, chest, and arm. During her recovery, Beller has expressed ongoing fear for her safety and reported a security breach in her hospital room involving an individual identifying as a police officer.

Beller alleges that Cerimedo orchestrated the attack to silence her regarding domestic violence and alleged corruption involving the family of Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz. She also claimed Cerimedo had previously made allegations regarding corruption involving Karina Milei.

Cerimedo was apprehended at Viru Viru International Airport while attempting to board a flight to Buenos Aires. Bolivian prosecutors have ordered his continued detention, citing him as a significant flight risk, as the investigation continues to determine if other individuals were involved in planning the assault.
