India 2026 UPSC & State PSC Exams Update
Overview
The 2026 recruitment cycle for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and various state commissions has seen significant activity across India. In Uttar Pradesh, the UPPSC increased vacancies for the PCS-2026 recruitment from 500 to 728 positions. The Secondary Education Department holds the largest share, including 158 principal positions and 41 roles for Deputy District Inspector of Schools. The Basic Education Department added 122 senior lecturer positions, 74 Child Development Project Officer roles, and 58 Assistant District Employment Assistance Officer roles. Additional vacancies were noted in the Urban Development, Agriculture, and Finance departments, with the commission indicating the total may increase further before preliminary results are released. Regarding the UPSC, a new notification was issued on September 26 for 13 positions across various ministries, with applications open until October 16. These roles include one Junior Technical Officer (Sugar Technology) at the National Sugar Institute, eight Assistant Legislative Council positions within the Ministry of Law and Justice, three Law Officer roles for the Delhi Government’s Land and Building Department, and one Specialist Grade-II (Junior Scale) in Cardiology for the New Delhi Municipal Council. On September 27, legal challenges emerged regarding the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination. A group of 63 candidates approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) to contest the provisional answer key, alleging that 27 questions in the General Studies and aptitude papers contain errors, such as incorrect answers or lack of valid options. This expands upon an earlier petition by four candidates regarding eight specific questions from General Studies Paper-I. In Delhi, the UPSC rescheduled the Common Recruitment Test (CRT) for 828 Principal and Vice-Principal positions from December 1, 2026, to January 9, 2027. This postponement followed a request from the Government School Teachers Association (GSTA) due to candidate workloads during the Special Intensive Revision exercise.
