Flybondi crisis deepens as Brazil bans sales

Entities: Brazil · Florianópolis · Maceió · Mariana Juris · Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (Anac)

Overview

Flybondi’s limited restart in July 2026 with only two Boeing 737‑800s has been hampered by a wave of cancellations, mounting debts and ongoing investigations into previous management’s alleged fraud. By late July the carrier had cancelled more than 20 % of scheduled flights and was negotiating with creditors, including YPF and aircraft lessors, to add up to six aircraft before month‑end.

On 29 July 2026 Brazil’s civil aviation authority (ANAC) issued a precautionary measure that bars Flybondi from selling tickets to three new Brazilian destinations—Florianópolis, Maceió and Salvador—and threatens to suspend sales on the Buenos Aires–Rio de Janeiro route from 3 August. The action follows ANAC’s finding that 79 % of Flybondi’s flights registered in Brazil between 1 and 27 July were cancelled, prompting a surge in passenger complaints over refunds and re‑booking. Existing tickets remain valid, but the airline must provide free re‑accommodation or a full refund within seven days of any new cancellation. ANAC indicated the restrictions could be lifted if Flybondi restores regular operations and resolves the identified consumer‑risk issues.

The airline continues to face parliamentary scrutiny, regulator orders, and intensified civil‑aviation inspections while seeking to stabilise its fleet and finances.
