Turkey's regional festivals persist across years

Entities: Resul Dindar · Sis Dağı · Büyükçekmece International Culture and Arts Festival · Tekirdağ · Büyükçekmece

Overview

The municipal‑driven cultural wave that began in early July continued across Turkey throughout the month. In Konya, the Culture Road Festival featured singer‑actor Özcan Deniz and a range of activities such as an Ottoman exhibition, Ebru workshops, a children’s village, digital stations, Karagöz shows and a VR balloon tour through 26 July. Gökçebey Yaz Festival hosted the Mithat Çanakçı Folk Music Choir, with officials presenting plaques to contributors. Mersin’s “Köy Bizim, Şenlik Bizim” programme brought face‑painting, workshops, traditional games and dance to villages all summer. New entries included Afyonkarahisar’s Caravan Festival, which attracted about a thousand participants with rope‑pulling, sack races, DJ sets and a fire‑pit, and Ardahan’s Kaşar Festival, visited by MP Kaan Koç highlighting the cheese‑making heritage. Çorum’s 38th International Hitit Fair (21‑26 July) added folk‑dance, pop and rap concerts, classic‑car displays, sports, gastronomy and open‑air cinema. The summer circuit also covered earlier gatherings in Gebze, Söke, Çankırı and Sakarya. The wave extended to the Black Sea and Istanbul region. Arsin municipality launched its third Culture, Tourism, Art and Local Products Festival (25‑27 July) with concerts by Aykut Özer, Sinan Yılmaz and DJ Ceren Polat and stalls of regional foods. In Arnavutköy, the third Yeniköy Watermelon Festival on Karaburun Beach offered free sliced watermelon, heavy‑watermelon and carrying contests, folk music performances and attendance by Istanbul Governor Davut Gül and former EU minister Egemen Bağış. Two years later, the festival circuit resurfaced with a fresh series of events. In Trabzon’s Şalpazarı district, the 205th Sis Dağı Culture Festival drew thousands of locals and officials, while Afyonkarahisar hosted its inaugural Camp and Caravan Festival at Emre Lake. Ardahan’s Göle Kaşar Cheese Festival saw MP Kaan Koç meet visitors, and Şanlıurfa organised a bicycle tour ending at Göbeklitepe to promote traffic safety.
