Royal Enfield expands capacity and diversifies lineup
Overview
Royal Enfield is executing a significant capacity expansion to meet rising demand, including a Rs 1,225 crore investment for a new plant in Andhra Pradesh. The company’s product lineup continues to diversify and expand.
On September 4, 2026, marking the tenth anniversary of the Himalayan brand, Royal Enfield officially launched the Himalayan 440 at the Himalayan Basecamp in Leh, Ladakh. Positioned as a more accessible and uncomplicated adventure tourer than the liquid-cooled Himalayan 450, the model serves as the successor to the discontinued Himalayan 411. The motorcycle features a 443cc air/oil-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 25.4 hp and 34 Nm of torque. To improve highway performance, it utilizes a six-speed gearbox, an upgrade from the five-speed transmission of its predecessor. Key specifications include a 15-litre fuel tank, an 800mm seat height, 220mm ground clearance, and 21-inch front and 17-inch wheels. Safety features include dual-channel ABS with an option to switch off the rear ABS.
Modern amenities include an LED headlight, a semi-digital instrument cluster with a Tripper navigation pod, and a USB Type-C charging port. The Himalayan 440 is available in Mustang Brown, Nelong White, and Sela Black, with an introductory price of Rs 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom). This pricing positions it against competitors like the Yezdi Adventure, which offers higher horsepower but lower torque.
Further expanding its adventure portfolio, Royal Enfield has showcased the Himalayan 750 for the first time in India at the Himalayan Base Camp. This upcoming model will utilize a new 750cc parallel-twin platform, expected to deliver approximately 55bhp and 60Nm of torque. Technical features for the 750 include a round TFT console with smartphone connectivity, ride-by-wire throttle with cruise control, and adjustable suspension. While an official launch date is unannounced, an international debut is expected at EICMA 2026, followed by an Indian launch at Motoverse 2026.
