Kia PV5 sales grow; PV7 officially unveiled at IAA
Overview
Throughout July and August 2026, Kia expanded its PV5 portfolio and market reach. In Greece, the brand launched the EV2 compact SUV and the PV5 Cargo van, while a camping-bed kit for the PV5 Passenger entered the Japanese market. Dutch specialist Vantrack began series production of its LightCamp conversion, and Kia rolled out the PV5 Cargo in New Zealand and passenger versions in the Czech Republic. By early August, Kia expanded the EV6 sedan’s range and added five new PV5 models, bringing the family to ten configurations. Market data released on August 6 confirmed the PV5 Cargo became the best-selling light-commercial EV in Europe’s C-segment during the first half of 2026, with 13,116 units sold and a 37% market share. The model led in twelve countries, including Germany and the United Kingdom, and achieved market shares exceeding 50% in Denmark, Ireland, Sweden, Finland, and the UK. Sjoerd Knipping, Kia Europe’s chief operating officer, attributed the rapid uptake to the van’s “integrated software, services and modular design.” The PV5 also set a Guinness World Record for efficiency by completing a 693 km run on a single charge. To further its “PBV” strategy, Kia announced its 5th annual Purpose Built Vehicle Idea Contest. In late August, the PV5 appeared on the Philippine Department of Energy’s list of electric vehicles. In September, Kia reported global sales of over 39,000 PV5 units for the first eight months of 2026. The company also began supplying 200 customized PV5 cargo models to Korea Post to optimize mail operations, featuring low-floor designs and aluminum cargo floors following a two-month field test. On September 14, at the IAA Transportation show in Hanover, Kia officially unveiled the PV7, the second model in its Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) series.
